Volunteer work is a core value in this year’s CEO class.  They are working on bettering the Lincoln Land area by transforming views of Lincoln through 100 Acts of Kinds

What are 100 Acts of Kindness? This challenge involves doing any act of kindness for someone else.  No matter how big or small, if it can make a difference–especially when done intentionally, it’ll be helpful. CEO wants to make a difference in the way students learn and how they look at the different environments around them.

Some things the CEO class has done is spent 2 days at the safety complex doing landscaping and cleaning the Mt. Pulaski library.  Another act of kindness the CEO completed was helping plan an honor flight coming home party by designing posters with welcoming, kind words.  They met the honor flight they arrived back on the ground safely. The students were truly invested in the project;some inviting other students to come help in the celebration.

While getting in the Christmas mindset, the class also helped set up Christmas trees around Lincoln courthouse and decorated the big Christmas tree inside the courthouse. These opportunities provide the CEO kids with service hours and personal connections to the community.

“I really like being able to do this kind of stuff and get out of a typical classroom setting,” said Olympia senior Grace Frye.

All students in the CEO program are carefully selected and chosen in the summer, providing them a chance to prove themselves and get out of their public school mindset. CEO provides them the tools to succeed and bring it back to the community.
