During the second week of May (7th-11th), Student Council celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week, honoring Olympia High School teachers, their dedication, and hard work through the years.

Since 1984, schools nationwide designated a week in May as a time to honor the men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating students. Olympia High School has around 40 teachers in the school, and student council planned the thank everyone of them.

Junior, Kelsey Lessen, Vice President of Student Council and head of the service projects committee said, “Teacher Appreciation week is a great way for students to show their teachers how important they are to our community. And this week is only a small way of thanking them for their dedication, patience, and time.”

The Student Council service projects committee is in charge of planning events and getting gifts for that week. This year, the committee ordered lunch from La Gondola for the teachers to enjoy one day. The council has also ordered every teacher a t-shirt with a message reminding them of their importance, as well as some simple classroom gifts such as Kleenex and pens.

Brooke Dean, a senior said “We decided add something a little different this year for the teachers. Normally we will do a breakfast, lunch, a snack day, and a few small gifts including classroom supplies, but this year we decided to order all the teachers t-shirts instead of ordering breakfast and buying snacks. We felt that the t-shirts were a little more personal.”
