On Friday, May 11, the Olympia High School FFA hosted over 500 elementary students to teach them about agriculture. The FFA students had a total of 11 stations that covered topics including animals, big equipment and learning stations. In the animal group, the kids got to interact with all different types of animals and learn about them. Most of the kids said that they really enjoyed looking at the goats. At the big equipment stations, the kids got to learn about the equipment and climb up into them. Some of the equipment the FFA students brought were tractors, combines, and skid steers. Reece Douglas, a sophomore in FFA said, “I loved being able to take something that I'm passionate about and have a lot of knowledge in and be able to share it with younger kids who show an interest in the agriculture industry. My favorite part of Ag Day this year was definitely helping the kids climb into the tractors and teaching them about the basic functions.”

The rest of the day was spent at learning activities. This included flying a drone, eating and learning about ice cream, and learning about safety, welding, FFA, plants and aquaculture. Xian Graden, a senior in FFA said, “Ag Day was a very enjoyable experience and I look forward to improving my knowledge and teaching others about welding and metalworking.” Ag Day has been a favorite activity to do in FFA and this year Mr. Bryce Hoffman and all of his students put in more than enough effort to make this year’s Ag Day the best it could be. All of the agriculture students hope that next year’s Ag Day will be just as fun.  A special thank you to the following businesses and individuals for helping with Ag Day:  Cross Implement Inc., Mike Deterding, Central IL Ag, Tara Miller, Tommy Young, Joe Gaither, One Source Rental, Central IL Trucking, GFS, Lon Abrams and the Olympia Administration.
