Firsties at South began last week reading “Bat Loves the Night” by author, Nicola Davies. This book led the students on a mission to learn about why a bat is not a bird, different types of bats, parts of a bat and more! The week finished with the first official BAT DAY!! Students spent the day in a bat cave with lights off, flashlights, glow sticks, and even a bat roost. Students worked on art, informative writing, comparing bats and birds, and a whole grade level activity to understand echolocation. The kids had a blast and were able to share what they had learned all week!

The second grade classes at Olympia South are learning about communities. We discussed the three types of communities (rural. urban, and suburban) and created second grade NOUN TOWN. #olyspartanpride
