PBIS at Olympia CUSD 16
What is PBIS?
What are the three tiers of support?
Why did Olympia adopt PBIS?
Prior to PBIS there were very different classroom and building definitions of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. Additionally, instead of taking opportunities to teach appropriate behaviors, students were often ONLY given punitive consequences. As we have worked to adopt this framework we have seen more consistent language being used within buildings and on-going teaching and modeling of appropriate behaviors. We have also established systems of data collection that help to determine which students need more intensive support.
PBIS Teams
Each school has a Tier I PBIS team and a Tier 2 PBIS team. At the secondary level, we have also included students on our teams to ensure incentives and language used is appropriate / desirable.
What is an 'out of the blue day'?
Unannounced days in which we recognize good behavior and positive choices. Incentives / prizes as small as a pencil and all the way to tickets to move to the front of the lunch line to an extra recess may be included as prizes for OOTB days.
